E-bike riders may be surprised to know that the effective range of their battery is much higher than they think. In fact, most e-bike riders go through the same routine after each ride, which is to charge the battery. While this might be a good habit, you should check the battery to see if it needs a replacement. To avoid overcharging your battery and destroying it, here are 5 tips to help you get the most out of your e-bike battery.

  1. Keep your battery charged

Almost all e-bikes rely on lithium-ion batteries to power them. It’s important to keep these batteries maintained and full in order to extend their lifespan. If they are allowed to drain too low, it can actually damage the battery and shorten its lifespan.

Our general recommendation is to charge your battery whenever possible and avoid letting it fall and remain below 50% too frequently. The battery will continue to operate most effectively and maintain a larger capacity for a longer period of time, giving it the greatest possible range.

  1. Before charging, allow the battery to cool

When using an e-bike, it’s usually easier to remember to plug it in right away. But if you can, wait until the battery has cooled down a bit (for around 15 minutes) before putting it on charge.

Why? Batteries often charge most effectively when they are not still warm from recent usage.

In the short term, you might not notice a change, but over time, this could result in a slower loss of battery capacity as batteries get older.

  1. Always Check your battery indicator

Your e-bike will include an indication to let you know when the battery charging cycle is finished. Depending on the model of your e-bike, this may appear on the charger, the battery, or whatever display you may have.

Instead of presuming that the battery is charged after a certain period of time, it is worth waiting for this indication to indicate a full battery.

Important Note: Use the charger that came with your e-bike, which is particular to your model, at all times. The battery will be charged at the maximum rate at which it was intended. Don’t use another charger, even if it has a similar appearance and can fit in the battery or e-socket.

  1. Avoid exposing your battery to high temperatures

Even in extreme heat or cold, you can still ride your e-bike without harming the battery. However, wherever possible, it’s ideal to keep batteries in a moderate temperature range.

Batteries don’t function effectively if they are frequently kept in hot or cold conditions; they either discharge more quickly or don’t fully charge when you plugged in. Naturally, this will lower battery performance and, reduce life.

If possible, try to charge your battery in a cool location during hot weather to reduce the chance of overheating. And Try to charge and store the battery in an environment that is more like to room temperature when it is cold (around freezing temperatures).

  1. maintain a charged battery

Try to leave your e-bike charged if you plan to be away from it for several weeks or more. A decent general rule of thumb is to fully charge your battery, then charge it again every so often to top it off.

In general, to get the most out of your e-scooter battery, care for it properly. Always use the charger that the manufacturer recommends while charging the battery, recharge it frequently to prevent leaving it in a low charge condition, and if possible, let the battery cool down a bit before putting it on charge.

Attempt to keep your e-scooter battery away from temperature extremes at all times, especially when charging (exposure to direct sunlight, for example, can create a lot of heat). This can lessen the chance of overheating and protect against decreased performance and longevity.

Conclusion

Whether you’re looking to reduce your carbon footprint or help reduce traffic congestion, or you just want to save money on fuel costs and decrease your maintenance expenses, there are lots of reasons why using an electric scooter makes sense.

As it turns out, ditching a petrol scooter and picking up an Electric Scooter can help you do all of these things. And now that you know how much money you can save by switching to an electric scooter, there’s no excuse not to go ahead and make that change! So what are you waiting for? Don’t let another day pass before making that switch!!!
